It’s always funny to see a kid wearing grown-up clothes. Ironically, I find it inspiring when I see adults breaking free from the ‘rules’ of adulthood as they add that hint of playfulness while getting dressed in the morning. What you choose to wear and the accessories that go into your 'look' tell a lot about your personality and who you are. Here are 8 ideas to let people know you are Adultitis-free. For Him: 1. Put your best foot forward. How about some novelty socks peaking out under those dress pants? 2. Come on, save the day! How can you not feel five again when sporting your …

Class Has Started
You don’t have to have a degree in Education to be a teacher. I believe we are all teachers. It’s what you choose to teach that defines who you are. Last Sunday Jason and I met with some friends for lunch. All four of us have been employed as teachers at one point in our lives. We were talking about how if you really want to learn something, you should try to teach it. This is so true. …
Shameless, For Your Benefit
I try to refrain from blatant shameless plugs in this blog, but I have a good reason for it this time. I don't want you to miss out on a chance to win dinner and a movie and a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork from little old me. If you're reading this blog, you probably already know that I have a book coming out (I'll believe it myself when the pallet of books arrives at our office.) And if you're reading this blog, you probably are one of those people who think childhood is a state of mind, rather than a stage of life. If so, I can whole-heartedly testify that you'll love the book. …
More Discussion on Dogs
Check out the newest edition of Allan's Alley by Chalkboard Columnist Allan Dash... As I write this, the blogs of both Kim and Jason contain affectionate reminiscences about the pet dogs of their respective childhoods. Since suspicious carpet stains and chewed shoes have been part of my life for the past 60 years or so, I began squinting back through the mists of time, eventually focusing on the three critters who started it all: Patsy, Mickey and Prince. …

The Road to Recovery
I'm ashamed to say that I am, in fact, an adult. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I have all the symptoms of Adultitis. My only saving grace is that I have gotten the disease officially diagnosed and I am on the road to recovery. You may be wondering, 'What are the symptoms? I may have it too!' Well, the symptoms look differently from one person to the next, but I can share with you some of mine and also ones I've observed in those around me. I really started to realize I had something wrong when my 'to do' list became my Bible. I would treat it like the Holy Grail. I would find my …
Dog Craziness
Jason's recent blog entry made me livid, as he can attest to after our dinner conversation this evening. I almost spit out my spanish rice. If you haven't read his blog entry about stressed-out dogs, sneak over there now and take a peak. Dog's receiving massages. COME ON! I don't necessarily plan on having a dog in the near future, however I had a dog growing up, Princess. As you can see from the picture, I too, had an issue with treating her like a human (yes, that is a pacifier in her mouth), but I was 10 years old! She was like a doll for me. I would dress her up and treat her literally …
Stressed-Out Dogs
My dad recently had to put our dog to sleep. I say "our" as if I still live there and ever really contributed much to the dog's welfare. I didn't have quite as much animosity toward the dog as my mother did, but then again, I didn't pay for the carpet Odie liked to pee on. Yes, our dog's name was Odie, and Odie was a she. We had two dogs in our household, and for some reason, both were females that we named after male cartoon characters. (Snoopy was a black mutt that looked nothing like her namesake. And for the record, Odie was not a slobbering yellow pooch with puffy ears, but rather a …
Cartooning Bootcamp
Last week Kim and I put on our first (annual?) Cartooning Bootcamp here in Madison. We had an Intro to Cartooning session on Monday, and the three-day Bootcamp Tuesday through Thursday. Kim did the hard parts, like calling art teachers and dropping off flyers to promote the event, and I did the fun part (talking 'toons while sweating my butt off in a barely air-conditioned classroom). …
