The day he discovered the shower head and tried to catch the water that hit his hands… The first time he felt raindrops on his face… And most recently, the first time he played in beach sand (or any sand). He loved it. This lesson was tempered, of course, by the first time he got sand in his eye, followed by the first time he got rinsed in one of those freezing beach showers.

It’s the most beautiful bird!!” I looked out and saw a red-winged blackbird. He pointed out to me the bright red, the yellow and white on the wing, the blue-black feathers shining in the sun. He was so enamored of this bird, one I considered to be a dime a dozen, and he really opened my eyes to that beauty. It really does “take a child to remind us”. Now these 20 years later, I never see a red-winged blackbird without thinking about my son and what he taught me.
