Is it ‘soon’ yet?” After the child catches on that “soon” means “possibly never” the child will lead the way with the ultimate solution: “No, not soon – NOW!” Whether spoken as demand, plea, or a roll-of-the-eyes-shake-of-the-head instruction to the addled adult, children GET IT – There IS NO “later.”

Instead, we should follow Nike’s slogan – Just Do It. Maybe doing it means starting right now. Maybe it means saying I will start next week Friday, and here’s what I need to do to get ready. But, if it’s something important to us, the Nike slogan sure beat “soon” or “next year”. This is good stuff to ponder (now).
