Whether you call it a Sabbath or “do-nothing” day, jammies are an excellent and ideal wardrobe choice.

It’s typically on Sunday. But it usually involves making a nummy breakfast, getting caught up on Netflix movies or shows we’ve recorded, reading, hanging out, snacking, no errands, no commitments.

We can’t always do it every weekend, but when we’re able, you can bet we’ll be on the couch in our jammies most of the day. Downtime is so critical, and if you have to schedule it in, so be it!

Lisa, love the Retreat of Silence. That can be a difficult discipline, because we’re so used to noise. But what a great thing to practice. Good for you!

It always good to hear example of people who mindfully take a Sabbath. I’ve never heard of anyone wishing they didn’t :)

I work a 9 – 5, so it will either have to be a Sunday or a Saturday. I’ll be talking this concept of creating a Sabbath over with my wife and see what she says. I know she will absolutely love the no cooking part.

I’m a big fan of taking Sabbath days, including a Retreat of Silence–an afternoon of zero noise created within my space. I’m not good at scheduling it, but I do feel more “me” when I take one a month. Journaling and reading are the best during Sabbath.

I’ve been thinking about the idea of a Sabbath a lot lately. My husband and I just need to *do it* instead of talk about it. I think the key – as you wisely point out – is not to feel restrained by rules. Figure out what is relaxing and rejuvenating for you, and do it.

Thanks for this uplifting, motivating post!

It can be so hard to do, but worth it. I like the idea of building a day in even if it’s not the same day! This weekend was a good example of how much my family and I needed downtime. Although I did chores, and we had a birthday party and Easter egg hunt brunch to attend, my son who is past the age of a daily nap, fell asleep on the couch on Sat. afternoon, and I plopped down with a book. Sunday AM I really wanted to stay in my sweats til noon, but had a responsibility at church. When I met resistance from the rest of the family about Sunday school I didn’t push, so they stayed on the couch for the morning. We skipped church and went to our brunch and had a wonderful time chilling out at the gathering. I think we watched about 3 movies over the weekend too. I have friends who are very faithful about taking their Sabbath. They work hard on Friday to get everything done they need to to go to church and do no major cooking, laundry, chores, or errands on Saturday. They love it.
