Had you told me I would be doing any of those things even just a few years ago— I wouldn’t have believed you.
Be the change you want to see in the world…

I have opportunities one person at a time, everyday , big or small to make an impact on a life. My motto comes from Mother Theresa, “Let no one come to me and leave un changed”.
This is my glorious purpose xoxo

Vision for The World
I am a teacher and I live in Madison Wisconsin. Five years ago I woke up at 3:00 am with an extremely clear vision. I saw an aerial view of this gigantic campus. There were buildings around a community garden and they formed a shape of a heart. I grabbed some paper and wrote down the ideas as quickly as I could. It was called Healing Hearts Community Campus. There was also a place in the middle called Mindful Heart Center. All the buildings around it had names associated with the heart and I made a map of the campus. There was a senior center called Young at Heart and and nearby there was a home called Haven House which I knew was a place for teens who would be in a traditional group home. They had GED programs there as well as all sorts of projects and classes they were allowed to live there for free as long as they put in a certain number of volunteer hours on the campus, next to that was a warming house which was a place for homeless families to go in the winter. Then there was a place called Heart’s Desire Cafe which was a place to get heart healthy food. Next to this building was a place called Heartbeats which was a movement center with dance classes and drumming classes. It was also a space where other groups could practice. The building next to that was called Rainbow Cooperative and it was a place where the community could get Reiki and acupuncture all sorts of healing practices. They could get discounts if they also volunteered on the campus. There was also a beautiful serenity garden next to this. Finally the heart was completed with a center called Pawprints. This was a place where rescue animals were used in the healing and senior center. The Mindful Heart Center was where children and their parents could take workshops. There was also a thing called Mindful Heart Curriculum I knew that the purpose of the campus was to give the oldest and the youngest members of our community purpose. Children adopted grandparents in the senior center and they had storytelling circles there. I knew it was somewhere with snow because all these buildings were connected with closed walkways. There were community members who lived on campus and there were others who just came for workshops and classes. I saw myself cutting the ribbon to this place. It felt like it already happened. My ideal world would be filled with places where the community was part of a collective. People could live in apartment communities where there our young and old people. It is kind of like a coop but with separate dwellings. There is a boutique in the middle where people can borrow all manner of goods like books, lawnmowers and snow blowers. This eliminates the need for so much stuff. People can relax when they get home because there is a revolving chore list where everyone cooks. That way people can cook once or twice a month. I have since found out that there are some places like this in Norway so I know it is possible.

Vision for Your Business
I was so overwhelmed by this idea that seemed bigger than me and needed lots of benefactors that I put it off. however I could not shake it from my mind. I decided to take this dream and make it happen in doable chunks. I started with Mindful Heart Playshops where I could do the workshops I envisioned with parents and kids. I went to different centers and rented space and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. However as a business it was not cost effective and even though I loved being a facilitator of these Playshops it seemed like it would not work out as a part-time job. I now am a preschool teacher and decided on evenings and weekends I would devote time to my vision, I decided to call my business Mindful Heart Community and made myself business cards that said I was a teacher and workshop funcilitator. I then worked on my own website and group FB page. I am now part of a wonderful community of volunteers. We have brainstorming meetings where we talk about how we can creatively solve problems or contribute to our community. I recently cocreated a three day filming workshop for kids with autism called Camp Createability. It was a great success and we plan to do another one in the summer. I meanwhile have been working with homeless kids as a part-time after school teacher. I decided that I could no longer feel heart-broken for these children without doing something. I thought about the word Mindful and it is about being fully in the present. I believe the heart is more than just the thing in our bodies and it is just as powerful and endless as the mind. I realized that was what our next leap in social consciousness would be and that people would start seeing the heart the same way we have discovered the mind and the endless possibilities.

Positive Impact
My latest idea is to have a big community art party. I have already seen this happening in May. It will give much needed exposure to the homelessness issue facing us and I will have a goal in mind. The proceeds of this event will go into scholarships for homeless kids so that they can attend after-school summer camps and full day programs when school is not in session. The big dream now is to raise enough money and awareness that next year we have a warming house for homeless families.
Ideal Business
I want to make money doing what I love which is facilitating these events in the community. I love to network and am a part of many organizations that could join forces to help the children in the community. I envision this going nationwide and then global. Our campus will be the pilot program. I want to go to schools and show people how to do my workshops. I love play in all its forms and believe that my ideas combine playing and learning. I want to provide a place where people can experience Take-Apart Club which I have done in my afterschool program for years and Flying Paintbrush which is a form of CreARTive Movement that involves dancing and painting. I want to be paid for my ideas and someday be a benefactor to help Mindful Heart Community contributions to all sorts of organizations. I have been told this it what is known as being a social entrepreneur.

On a scale of 1-10, how fulfilled and satisfied do you imagine you would be if you achieved your vision?
9
If it’s not a 10 already, what would make it a 10?
I am also working on a series of books and if these were published and sold well enough to fund my dream this would be the icing on the cake. I want a job that loves me and provides for me as much as I love it. I want to leave behind a legacy that will truly make the world a better place before I leave it.
I visualize this every day and last night had a dream of it being a reality.
