Love the idea of hacking your own process. Songwriting works in a similar way. I will often take a melody of a new tune that doesn’t have lyrics yet, use my looping machine (plays same bar over and over) and then layer variations on top of it without committing anything to a recording yet. It frees me up to fail quickly and cheaply, before eventually recording the song, which costs like $80/hr :)
