Why are we here? For what purpose were we created? What is YOUR mission in life? Ah, I see some of you have already gone off running and screaming for fear that this will be a lengthy philosophical tome on the creation of the universe and why Krispy Kreme doughnuts are so dang good. The questions I pose have been asked by nearly everyone who ever lived, starting right around the time pimples started appearing on our noses. I think one of the reasons people go around with such a lack of fulfillment is because they haven’t figured out the answers to these questions. At the risk of sounding like that Juice guy on TV peddling machines that will turn old shoes into nutritional shakes, I have a tool that will help you answer some of these burning questions that roll around our head like pins in the back of a bowling alley. It’s a book called The Path, by Laurie Beth Jones. It’s a very easy read, and very practical guide to figuring out what you life’s “mission” is. Your mission is more than being a parent, or what job you have (although those things can be a way to fulfill your mission). I stumbled upon it my last year in college and carefully crafted a simple mission statement that has stuck with me to this day. The greatest thing about it is the new sense of direction and fulfillment your life will take on. It helps you with every decision you make, and gives you perspective when life turns upside down. I don’t know the author, and I’m not getting paid to sell her book, but I know too many people who wander along in life without a real sense of what they should be doing with it. And I’ve experienced the joy that comes when you finally align your life with your unique mission. For example, my mission is “to inspire, entertain, and encourage others to renew their childlike faith and believe in their dreams”. I’m able to live this out every day. Whether I’m drawing Kim & Jason, in discussions with my business friends, or speaking to a group of children or senior citizens, I am able to align my actions with my mission. And even though there are days that are really rough and challenging, there is a deep seated peace within me. When Kim and I are forced to make decisions together, we hold them up to our missions, and usually the decision suddenly becomes pretty easy to make. So if you’ve ever wondered what the point of life is (particularly yours), run, don’t walk to the nearest bookstore and buy the book. Actually, I’ll add a link right here so you can buy it while sitting on your butt. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0786882417/?tag=kimandjason Now, let’s talk about Krispy Kremes…
