Jason, myself and the rest of us on this journey to rid the world of Adultitis fondly identify ourselves as having a “permission mission.” Let’s face it, life is not always a bed of roses. It’s filled with many ups and downs, and our day-to-day can often be met with real stress that cannot be ignored. We are here to give you permission to interject a little fun every once in a while and to look at life through a new lens.
Not too long ago we gave a program for a group of professionals for a staff appreciation day. We put some Play-Doh on the tables, along with crayons and paper for a drawing activity. We always get some smiles when Jason asks the adults how long it’s been since they picked up a crayon. Nothing takes you back quicker to childhood than the smell of a Crayola crayon!
By the end of the event a few women invited us over to their table to show us their creations. They had broken open the Play-Doh and had some fun. You can see for yourself . . .
Yes, that is lipstick (with a cap that can actually be taken on and off), a rabbit (with some droppings), and a miniature ear of corn. They were obviously having fun and were embracing this concept of “playfulness” that Jason and I had talked about. No stress at that table.
How can you bring some playfulness into your day today?
Maybe it will involve Play-Doh… or crayons… or how about food coloring … or some fun music? It doesn’t take much, just a minute or two to stop and think about it.
So, take that minute right now.
You’ve officially been given permission.

I dare ANYONE to pop open a new box of Crayola crayons and not smile. Especially if it’s a box with a built-in sharpener.
And Play-Doh… the scent alone will conjure up memories of fun from your childhood. I can’t think of a better stress-breaker.

Great challenge! I know I couldn’t resist smiling….especially with the sharpener built-in!
Happy smells, Bob!

Great idea, Kim, and I know your group had a BLAST! One of my favorite things to do is break out my old “Trixie Belden” books – (Like Nancy Drew, only less preppy.) When I delve into the books I loved as a child, I feel like that child again…and anything is possible.
