Jen de Ridder, January 2022 Adultitis Fighter of the Month

adultitis-fighter-logo-300

An Adultitis Fighter is someone who rallies against rules that don’t exist and engages in ruthless, senseless acts of silliness that undermine Adultitis and its unadventurous version of adulthood. Once a month, we shine a light upon the most remarkable among us, holding them up as a dazzling example of what we should strive for in this epic battle against a formidable enemy.

This month’s worthy recipient of this prestigious honor is Jen de Ridder!

In recognition of their efforts, Adultitis Fighters of the Month receive a special mini-canvas hand-painted by Jason, along with a certificate of honor, a sweet patch, and other Adultitis-Fighting tools. We asked Jen some questions about how she fights the Big A and what advice she has for others…

What are some of your favorite ways to fight Adultitis?

Enjoying child-like adventures with my family and friends. I go for daily walks, unplug and sit outside. I live at my job and have the greatest backyard in the world. It is like I live at a mansion: basketball, boating, zip-lines, water slides, archery, meals, and more! I go hang out with summer campers. I love to sing loud at a campfire and I never turn down s’mores or ice cream.

Who or what has been the greatest influence in your own fight against Adultitis?

My parents and my kids. They have always accepted my child-like spirit and I love when we get the giggles together. All the campers and staff I work with and watching them accomplish so many things. This (Escape Adulthood) community’s acceptance and encouragement.

What is something you loved doing as a child that you still do in some form today?

Singing, coloring, roller skating, reading, and eating doughnuts!

What is your strategy for dealing with people who are obviously infected with Adultitis?

Be kind to them and enjoy my life, it might be contagious.

What advice do you have for someone who is feeling overwhelmed by Adultitis?

Take a deep breath and do something that makes you feel happy. The biggest lesson I have learned from Escape Adulthood is to give myself permission!

Anything else you’d like to share?

I have learned: I can do hard things, I get to choose how I feel, Joy sometimes comes in the small moments. I am so thankful for this community.

Congrats to Jen, January 2022 Adultitis Fighter of the Month. Thank you for making the world more awesome!
