It really is my favorite season. Growing up with a yard full of trees offered many options for piles of leaves to jump into. My favorite thing to do was to rake up a big pile at the bottom of the slide on the swingset, climb those endless eight steps and fly into the crunchy sounds of happiness. The first fire in the fireplace was also a big deal. We had to break open the bag of marshmallows. Even though fall always seems like the shortest season it is filled with some of my favorite things in life:
The crisp cool mornings.
The traveling birds overhead.
The gorgeous leaves.
The first hot chocolate of the season.
The pumpkins on the doorsteps.
The candy corn..actually I like the candy pumpkins better.
Wearing sweatshirts and jeans, after months of shorts and t-shirts.
Unburrying the flannel pants.
The dry corn stalks in the fields.
Jason’s cheesy beer-n-brat soup.
The sound of the football game during a Sunday afternoon nap.
Crackling logs in the fireplace.
Hot apple cider and hot pumpkin pie, with Cool-Whip.
Flannel sheets on the bed.
The crunchy sound of dry leaves.
The smell of fresh picked apples.
The busy sounds of squirrels squeaking.
You gotta love the little things that make a season your favorite one!

Being the creative type, Jason likes to cook. He comes up with all sorts of recipes…one being his “cheesy beer-n-brat” soup. It’s a creamy soup with cheese, a slight hint of beer, and of course brats. As you can see we’re not as creative with the naming of the recipes. It also has a mix of celery, onions, milk, and potatoes. Yummy!
