My favorite part of Valentine’s Day as a kid was making little heart-shaped pouches out of construction paper and other materials, that we posted below the chalkboard in our classroom. Then we could bring Valentines and candy to put in our classmates’ pouches. Everyone got a bunch of Valentines and candy, and it was happy. :)
I have to say I enjoyed watching Kim’s expression while Jason was reading about the history of yoyos. It was priceless.
I love the candy hearts…although I’m not keen on the white ones. Not digging that flavor. I also like the older messages better. I agree with Kim about “E-MAIL ME”…that’s goofy. Plus, since the acronym “LOL” happens to be one of my pet peeves, not so hot on that message either. So I guess I have mixed feelings on the candy hearts. Love the taste (for the most part), like some of the messages, dislike other messages, can’t stand the white ones.

Here I go again… :)
Anyway, I remembered some stuff I forgot to mention… The comment about “the best-laid plans” reminded me of some lines from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (the recent version)…
“The best-laid plans if mice.”
“…and men”
“What?”
“The best-laid plans of mice and men”
“Well, I don’t think men had much to do with it.”
Also I loved making models as a kid. I remember doing that with my dad.

Hilarious show guys!
My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day was decorating the shoeboxes that would be used in class to collect our valentines.

Mom had us take valentines that we didn’t sign our names to.. just putting notes about the neighbors, how nice they were, or something they had done kind that year. If they weren’t nice we had to write something positive about them… then we took them to our neighbors houses, knocked on the door and ran away leaving the valentines on their doorsteps. It was to be anonymous valentines, we thought of it an opposite of Halloween.. not a time of taking but of giving in love. it was hard, fun and one of my favorite memories growing up.

My favorite part of Valentine’s Day was making home-made Valentine’s for all my friends and teachers. It was always such a blast to make the most unique Valentine. Since my sister and I always enjoyed cooking with our mom, we always included heart shaped cookies or something fun. Along with making the Valentine’s, it was also a treat to run home and open up each of the little cards and see the special messages each of my classmates had written for me.

My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day as a kid was the Valentine Day Parties at school. It was always a happy day full of fun and feeling good. Everyone shared valentine cards (homemade or otherwise), cupcakes, and the especially the candy hearts. The words on the candy hearts always made me feel good. It’s a shame we only have this kind of day once a year. Wouldn’t it be great to have more of these days on our calendar.

My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day from my youth was choosing each valentine for my friends from the boxed valentines. I always tried to choose the one that fit the person I was giving it to. It was always better to have the BIG box so you would have choices and not have to give the last one to someone it did not suit. I also remember one year, I made my own. I talked my mom into letting me get construction paper. It was a lot of fun. Pat
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY TO ALL OF YOU!!!!! Kisses to Lucy

I always loved making my Valentine mailbox in elementary school. I put a lot of effort into making the right size and number of hearts to decorate and figuring out how to make a working door was always fun. How you created the door was dependent on the type of box you used (shoe versus cereal box). My most memorable Valentine’s prep was the time I was actually able to use a box from a real mailbox. It was big, but worked out to be pretty cool. My grandfather helped me put all the white paper on the box and then I pasted on all the hearts and cherubs (grandma’s influence) and we created a working flag for mail to pick up.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

I loved the Valentine’s Day parties at school. My most memorable one was third grade,I had a big crush on Felix. He gave me a Valentine{homemade!}that simply said”I Heart U” with little red hearts all over a white doily. When I opened it and saw who it was from,I got all goose-bumpy and my legs felt like jello. Of course,in third grade girl fashion, I go up to him and punch him in the arm. Needless to say, that was the end of our little love affair.

i love the anticpation of how many valentine’s you would get (in the days before you had to give everyone in class, though my mom did have me make them for everyone in my class). I loved counting them over and over and reading the signatures (looking for meaninful messages) and guessing at who had the most in class. I always hoped to get a special one and the hoping was the best part, plus the goodies never hurt either

Hi! For the most part, the school classroom parties were a lot of fun! The most special thing about Valentine’s Day was the beautiful heart cake that my Aunt Annie made for me every year. She would have it displayed on a glass plate with candy hearts scattered around it and red hots! I miss those heart cakes to this day, but I have to lovely memories. Thanks, Cindi

Candy – no getting around it. Lots of chocolate candy in a giant heart shaped cardboard box. The occassional stuffed animal was cool, too.
However, I won this fondue pot from you guys last year and it still works like a champ so I won’t be needing another. ~:O)
Come to think about it, this is the one year anniversary of me finding your way cool blog and store! I think I will celebrate by dipping something in chocolate today!

I was always very happy when my mom took us to the store to get the red, white, and pink construction paper. We also picked out glitter and those little safety scissors. Then my sister and I would sit and create our homemade Valentines cards to Dad, Mom and Grandma. We learned how to cut the hearts out of folded paper in all different sizes. I think my mom still has one or two of the “made by me” cards.

My favorite Valentine’s Day related things are the cherry gummi Ju Ju hearts and watching the classic, 1970s “Be My Valentine Charlie Brown” special on TV. Not sure why they felt the need to make a new one. The original specials are the best. Oh… and I suppose, for good measure, I should say my favorite part of V Day is being with my sweetie.

I liked making the Valentine’s Boxes that we took to school for our classmates to put our cards in. I can remember using an empty cereal box that I covered with colored paper and cut-outs from old valentine cards. It was fun and creative.
