Looking On The Bright Side Of A Bad Ecomomy

Well, the Lemonade Stand was down the entire month of March due to “technical difficulties.” But it is back online and fully functional, so I don’t I have to move to Haiti now to live out the rest of my days as a recluse away from technology. Good news for Kim, I think. It turns out that March was probably the best time for it to be down if it had to be, what with everybody glued to Fox News, or CNN, or what have you. Hopefully with the worst of the war behind us, the economy will rebound and we can get out of this three-year tailspin. I started this company just as the economy began it’s downside right before Mr. Clinton left office. I had a bad feeling about things because the market had been so abnormally good, and frankly, I was waiting for the proverbial “other shoe” to drop. And it did. As our sales servants have had the opportunity to speak with shop owners over the past months, we’ve really had an opportunity to get the temperature of things. Not surprisingly, things have been cold, very cold. Consumers have not been buying, and store owners are afraid to buy anything new because they can’t sell what they already have. I have often wondered if these last three years have been the absolute worst time to be starting a business. I don’t know…we must be doing something right, because we’re still here. Even though revenue is not what we would hope for, we are using this time to lay a strong foundation for this company, like building relationships and infrastructures that will serve us well when the economy does decide to bounce back. We’re learning as much as we can, and practicing the fine arts of patience and perseverance, and financial restraint. In many ways, I believe this may have been the best time to start things. In meeting for breakfast with my banker last week, he agreed, stating his confidence in our plan and belief that now is the best time to be investing in something like this. So we press forward, emboldened by the lessons we’re learning, and the knowledge that the world needs a positive outlook and childlike hope now more than ever.
