My quest to keep seeing the world through "fresh" eyes continues...I have added a few new photos to my Escape Adulthood photo album, including this view through a champagne glass of my niece working on some art. …

Thanks Mom and Dad
I remember growing up in Peru, Illinois, and every night Mom would cook dinner and our whole family sat down for supper. My Mom's a pretty good cook, too (a fact that went unnoticed until I went to college.) Dad would ask us boys about our days and Mom made sure we ate our broccoli. At the time, it seemed pretty commonplace and mundane. Certainly not as remarkable as the A-Team, which was about to start so could I be excused, pleeeeaase? …
God’s Porsche
I've been reading a pretty interesting book by Terry Esau, called "Surprise Me, A 30-Day Faith Experiment." It has a neat concept behind it. He decided to start every day with the simple prayer, "Surprise me, God" and then write about what he experienced each day. It's kind of like "reading" Reality TV, except it's, well, real. (I know, I know, we all spend at least a few moments of every day traipsing around some jungle competing in games involving coconuts and pants made out of palm trees.) Anyway, he's a very entertaining writer which makes the book a really good read. This passage …
Turn the Tide on Breast Cancer
Being in my late twenties, it wasn’t uncommon for women in my mother’s generation to be seen smoking cigarettes while pregnant. In fact I know of quite a few women who have embarrassingly admitted that ‘they didn’t know.’ The thought of a pregnant woman lighting up these days sends shivers down your spine. Now knowing what we do about the effects of smoking on the unborn baby, woman today are socially persuaded to refrain from smoking – thank goodness. It’s sad because ‘back then’ (which wasn’t that long ago) women simply were not educated about the risks they were sharing with their babies. …
He Waves Back
When you wave at someone, hopefully they will wave back, right? Now, everyone has experienced 'those people' who, for some reason, do not. This makes absolutely no sense to me. In fact, when I worked in a school I would experience this quite often with my coworkers, in terms of 'saying hi.' Ok, here's the scenario, tell me if this has happened to you. It's you and 'this person' walking towards each other on opposite sides of the hallway (staying in your own lanes). At the socially appropriate time, you look up to make eye contact and either smile or say hello, depending on the social …
Escape Adulthood Manifesto
When I tried to explain this whole 'manifesto' thing to folks a few months ago (as we were encouraging others to take a few minute to vote for Jason's proposal online at ChangeThis.com) I felt myself stumbling over my words. The best way I could describe it went something like this: "Everyone has something they are very passionate about – something that 'makes them tick.' Sometimes it is a concept that needs to be shared- that is a manifesto!" …
Letting Kids Be Kids
I'm in a bit of a pickle. A few months ago, I stumbled across a story about a new corporate-sponsored theme park (aren't they all?) in Florida. I've refrained from blogging about it because I'm not sure what I think about it. Here are the details: Wannado City, as it is called, offers 3- to 13-year-olds a "taste of the grown-up world" by offering them the opportunity to try out more than 100 professions. For instance, a child could pilot a Spirit Airlines jet, write an article as a Miami Herald reporter, bottle Coca-Cola, or soar to great heights in flight simulators from Spirit Airlines. …
On The Radio
Well I finally got around to updating the Press Room with some new and old radio interviews. Most people are subconscious about hearing their own voice, and I'm definitely in that category. My wife and friends claim that I'm terrible on the phone (apparently I give off a why-are-you-bothering-me-tell-me-why-I-shouldn't-kill-you? vibe) but I think I come fairly ok in these clips. …
