The Opposite of Success is Not What You Think

Pop quiz: What is the opposite of success? I'm no psychic, but I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you'd probably say that the opposite of success is failure. That would be wrong. The opposite of success, as Joe Malarkey (the Worst Motivational Speaker in America) recently reminded me, is doing nothing. Failure is actually an integral part of success. Joe points out that all successful people have failed. They just didn't stay there very long. We hate failing. We really hate losing. Most of us go to great lengths to avoid experiencing either. Everyone who's ever learned to ride a …

9 Easy Ways to Make Yard Work Fun

Does anyone really enjoy yard work? Typically, it's a dreaded part of adulthood. Not everyone has the budget to hire it out, so inevitably you're left spending Saturday afternoon with your John Deere. The major challenge of living an Adultitis-free life is to tackle your dreaded tasks head on by infusing them with a whole lotta fun. I like to ask myself, "How would a kid handle this?" I should get a bracelet... WWKD (What would kids do?). Most likely, they would find a way to laugh and enjoy the situation. Fun, after-all, is the ultimate stress reliever. So, in an effort to improve your …

Top 10 Ways to Jazz Up Movie Nights

Whether you have a 19-inch TV or a big flatscreen, movie nights should be a blast. They are an inexpensive way to relax and enjoy the evening with those you love. Here are 10 simple ways to jazz up the movie nights in your household. 1. Light it up. Set the mood with candles, or hang a string of Christmas lights. If you have a fireplace, get it going. No matter what, make sure the lights are low. 2. Get comfy. Blow up the air mattress, set up the pull-out couch, or simply cover the carpet with piles and piles of blankets and pillows. The goal is to be so comfortable you don't even make …

The Weird Thing About the Grass on the Other Side

Sometimes I long for the days B.L. Before Lucy. Lucy is my seven-month-old daughter and first child. As an entrepreneur, I mistakenly thought my life resembled a roller coaster before this adventure into fatherhood. I realize now that I was only riding the wimpy kiddie coaster — the one without the big drops, corkscrews, and urges to vomit. Looking back, I enjoyed a lot more freedom then. I had way more time to myself, and I could come and go as I pleased. My wife Kim and I could watch more than one hour of a movie before slipping into comas. I didn’t have to deal with dirty diapers, …

10 Simple Ways to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed

Are you overwhelmed? It's actually one of the worst symptoms of Adultitis. Feeling overwhelmed stinks and let's be honest, adulthood sure invites this daily, with the bills and responsibilities and all. It's suffocating. I wish I would've known when I was five just how good I had it. Being overwhelmed can leave you feeling like you're submerged in quicksand and you're watching yourself sink deeper and deeper. Yikes!  It clouds your mind, leaving you with little more than a zombie existence, until you're able to snap out it. But how do you do that? You must prescribe for yourself one (or more) …

What Are You The King Of?

Kim and I recently hosted some good friends for lunch. Among the troupe of visitors was a five-year-old boy with blonde hair named Elroy. He approached the door with a pointy yellow crown stationed on his head. It was crudely bejeweled with markers of varying color. "What's with the crown?" I asked. He didn't skip a beat. "I'm the King of Pretending," he exclaimed. I was honored; it was the first time we were able to welcome royalty into our home. As I observed him throughout the day, playing with cars and creating things out of Play-Doh, it became very clear that this monarch was the …

Sweet Lemondrop Against Sour Adultitis

Another blog is joining the crusade to help folks Escape Adulthood. Lemondrop is helping spread the word about Adultitis with their interview of Kim & Jason. Here's an excerpt: Obviously, the pair's not advocating skipping out on your duties. But they think that we all might be a bit happier fulfilling them if we can recapture some of the wonder we had about life as children. And there's a difference, the couple says, between approaching life in a childlike way versus a childish way. "Now, if we are to take a childlike look at the current state of the economy, instead of dwelling on …

On this week's show, we engage in a friendly competition to show you a way to turn your ice cream sundae into an edible work of art. Share Your Thoughts...
