I love working on my life list. Do you have one? It's a compilation of the things you wish to experience, accomplish, and/or attain (a.k.a. your dreams). I wrote my first official LL about 4-5 years ago. It's been neat seeing how many things have been checked off since then. Here are a few of the highlights... 1- I've visited Boston in the fall. 2- I have seen the pandas in the San Diego Zoo. 3- I have toured Washington D.C. 4- I drink 8 glasses of water everyday. It's also exciting to see the ones that are about to happen very soon... …
Kim's Random Musings
Productive Stubbornness
Have you ever noticed that when you hear of a high school graduate proudly proclaiming that he is going to be a... (take your pick) artist, Holleywood movie director, musician, athlete, talk show host, actor etc., the young dreamer is often surrounded by a bunch of people with fake smiles. Having married one such dreamer and been transformed into a dreamer myself (it is contagious) I can tell you that there are only a select few that stick with you through the ups and downs. Jason and I have been extremely blessed be be surrounded by amazing family and friends that (even when they …
Our Heroes
Jason and I enjoyed watching the first season of NBC's Heroes. It's a drama about everyday people, young and old, living with superpowers. One flies, another can manipulate the time/space continuum, and yet another can paint the future. It was a fun journey seeing them work together to try to "save the world." As Jason and I enjoy the escape into the fictional stories of heroes on the show, it's easy to forget that we have our own "heroes" living among us, daring to use their superpowers to save our world. When I think of our heroes today I immediately think of our military. Some other …
Meet Lindsey and Elliot
Jason and I had the privilege of interviewing Lindsey Cox this week for our 19th podcast. The topic was "Enjoying the Journey as a Busy Mom." Lindsey had some wonderful insights to share which wasn't a surprise to us, after reading her blog for the last few weeks. Today marks the official start of Lindsey's year long sabbatical, which we discussed on the show. In our often overscheduled, busy, stressful day-to-day, the concept of pruning our commitments and consciously resting and slowing down is very inviting. Her actions are inspiring. You can read more about her sabbatical here. She is one …
Muting my Inner 5-year-old
Last night we ended up at the Madison Symphony Orchestra. First time ever. Very cool. During the experience my mind was fluttering with thoughts and questions. I felt like I was five again, wondering all sorts of things. Here are a few of the highlights... 1. This is a very long song. Longer than November Rain and Stairway to Heaven combined. 2. The cymbals guy is similar to the kicker in football. You wait and wait and wait and wait, and you better not mess up when your turn finally comes. 3. This hall looks like something out of Star Wars. …
Moms are Good Sports
Let's face it...kids like to tease their moms. It doesn't matter if the "kid" is forty-five years old, the parent-child relationship welcomes some razzing and joking. Sometimes it's how we show affection. When Jason and I were newly dating Jason nicknamed my mom the "curler lady" because she would often have curlers in her hair when he came over. To this day it's still a playful joke between them. Kids razz their moms for their choices in hairstyles, clothing, and even driving habits. I'm sure it has something to do with the 20-40 year generational gap. Thank goodness Moms (in general) have …
Cool Mom Syndrome
I read a fun quote the other day. "Before I got married, I had six theories about bringing up children: now I have six children, and no theories." - John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester Jason and I have not yet been blessed with the humbling task of raising children, so of course we are filled with theories of how it can be done. ;) That being said, I have a story to share... …
The Heartbreaker
Twelve years ago Jason broke my heart(s)...five to be exact. We had just met about two months earlier (while Christmas caroling..that's an interesting story). The week before Valentine's Day he mailed me five individual envelopes, each with a special word inside. #1- Will #2- You …
So Long, my Friend
For those of you who follow the Kim & Jason comic strip, I'm sure you are familiar with Boompa, Kim's grandpa. Jason describes Boompa like this: Boompa is a wise and witty senior who provides answers to some of life’s most challenging questions. A retired carpenter with a heart of gold, Kim’s grandfather is always giving the kids gifts and explaining how things work. He is old enough to know the wisdom that children possess, and always takes time to honor their questions, stories, and ramblings. Despite a lifetime of experiences, Boompa has not yet outgrown his childhood. …
I Love Tag (5 Things You Might Not Know About Me)
Since we didn't have any playground equipment on our school grounds growing up we played a lot of tag (and four square...I love that game!). Looks like I get to relive my tag-playing days. My friend Phil Gerbyshak just tagged me in his fun and enlightening blog. So, here's how this works...I share five things that you might not know about me. Then I get to run and tag five other bloggin' buddies. Thanks Phil! What a fun way to Escape Adulthood today! Here goes... 1. I met my husband Jason Christmas caroling Dec. 13, 1994. I was 16, he was 18. We were two of the twenty-some friends who …
