Sometimes the assumption is that all of this childlike stuff is reserved for those artsy, creative "free spirits." Not true. We all could stand to be a little bit more childlike; it's just that it looks different depending on the type of person you are. Take the Etch-A-Sketch for example. It is regarded as one of the classic American toys. My brothers and I had one growing up, but I never really got into it. Now that may come as a surprise to you, considering my artistic nature. But here's the deal: my brain is not an Etch-A-Sketch brain. It doesn't think in horizontal and vertical …

Exercising in the Cold, Plan B
As many of you know from the watching the big Packers vs. Giants game last Sunday, it's freakin' cold here in WI. I've resorted to Plan B for my daily exercise. If you remember Plan A consisted of piling on layers like everyone's favorite kid brother, Randy, and sucking it up for my daily walk. I've made the executive decision that losing sections of my face to frostbite is not my idea of a good time. I am thrilled to share my new exercise routine. Necessity is truly the mother of all invention. (Thanks to Libby and Shirley for the inspiration!) It's called... The Charlie Brown Dance …
What Does Bill Gates Know That You Don’t?
I am a die-hard Apple dork and I don't much care for anything made by Microsoft. But I have to give Bill Gates credit for at least one thing: he doesn't take himself too seriously. If ever there was a dude who could be expected to take himself seriously, it would be Bill Gates. I mean, the guy is as smart as a whip, changed the face of computing on the planet Earth, and is a gajillionaire to boot. (By the way, whoever decided that whips are smart?) This video from this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) demonstrates Gates fun side, which is often overshadowed by his über-wealthy …

Just a Bit of Silliness, Really
On New Year's Day Jason and I played a fun game with our family called Quelf. The game is described as "Insanity in a box!" It was outrageously fun and just plain silly. At one point I had to slow dance with my sister-in-law. We laughed so hard, switching between the "high school" slow dance (girl's hands around the guy's neck and the guy's hands around the girl's waist) versus the "classic" slow dance style. Another wacky thing I had to do was talk like a pirate for about fifteen minutes. Anyone who knows me well knows that my fake accents are way off. Terrible, really. If I had to make …
Don’t Blink
As you finalize your plans for New Year's Eve, it's natural to become overwhelmed by how fast each year goes. If you're like me, you're amazed that we only have two years left in this decade. Wasn't it just yesterday we were stocking up on canned goods and batteries for the turn of the century? A good song to listen to this time of year is Kenny Chesney's, Don't Blink. It inspires me to start the new year with an even greater appreciation for each new day and opportunity. If this isn't an Escape Adulthood anthem, I don't know what is. I love the video, which starts with the wisdom of a …
Adultitis Case Study #4: Christmas
The Cure Adultitis Institute has released a new public service announcement, just in time for Christmas. It can be the most joyful time of year, unless someone with a serious case of Adultitis shows up. It's a crucial time of year to spread the word about Adultitis. And look on the bright side: both Ebeneezer Scrooge and the Grinch were Adultitis survivors. There is hope. …
Stop Cooties
The disease we primarily focus on around here is the dreaded condition known as Adultitis. Grown-ups everywhere are stricken with the symptoms, and sometimes I feel like the fight is an uphill battle. The disease can also affect children, in the form of Juvenile Adultitis. Nasty stuff. But there is another childhood plague that is also quite serious. It's been around for a long time, at least since the widespread establishment of public education. I am speaking, of course, of cooties. Even though we spend most of our time treating grown-ups who have forgotten what it was like to be a …
My Favorite Neighbor
I recently bought this shirt, "Mr. Rogers Makes Me Happy." I love wearing it! I grew up watching Mr. Rogers every morning. I remember waving sadly to my sister Kristy (two years older) as she would walk down our long paved driveway to catch the bus every afternoon to kindergarten. The best "distraction" for my disappointment about losing my playmate each day was this gentle and friendly neighbor. My mom would give me my "baby cup" filled with orange juice and I would take my own journey to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. …
Woman vs. Turkey
I love this commercial! In searching for it I realized that Jennie-O has a handful of hilarious ones along the same line. Check them out here, here and here. ENJOY! [tags]Jennie-O commercials, turkey, funny Thanksgiving commercials[/tags] …
Fun in the Shadows
Ever make shadow puppets when you were little? As kids, my sisters and I always loved it when our begging would finally pay off and we'd get to have an evening watching our home movies on the old movie projector. (It was a lot of work to set-up, mom assured us.) As dad got the film ready to go, along with that one random hair projecting on the wall, our tiny hands would make all sorts of creations. Butterflies were the easiest. Our speaking programs are filled with visuals, which means that we have an LCD projector and screen set-up at every gig. Inevitably, every intergenerational …
