Growing up, I was terribly shy and afraid of new situations. In high school, I became very anxious when I realized that there may be a very good chance that in order to pursue my dream of becoming a freelance illustrator, it might be necessary to move to a big city... alone. Something like that was galaxies away from my pretty small comfort zone, and just thinking about it petrified me. With that being said, I am astounded that I am actually seriously considering a trip to the other side of the world. To Africa. Ethiopia, to be exact. …

Full-blown Adultitis
Last week we were flying to Denver. We ended up missing our connecting flight in Chicago because our first flight of the day in Madison was delayed. We literally sprinted through O'Hare Airport to get to our gate (which was super far away) only to find the doors to the jet bridge being closed right before our eyes. One of the American Airlines workers saw us run up, huffing and puffing, and after finding out our names began typing in the computer. She didn't say a word. We asked if we could still get on and she told us that our seats were already given away, as it was an overbooked …

Caution! Live Children
You know those people who turn their noses up when they see children nearby? You know, the ones who think kids are nothing but third class, germ-ridden, mess-inducing noise boxes? Well this must be the sort of sign they put up in order to warn other like-minded Adultitis-stricken grown-ups... (From This Is Broken) …
Eye to Eye
Today, while sitting in a cramped little hopper plane, I noticed something interesting about babies (and kids in general). They're unofficially allowed to smile at others while making eye contact, for more than 10 seconds. Adults are NOT. Let me explain. A few aisles up there was a baby about nine months old. He was busy giggling, clapping, and smiling. (Exactly what everyone wants from babies on airplanes.) This little boy was just plain happy. I noticed him trying to make eye contact with a babyboomer in the aisle in front of him. When the guy saw that he "had been picked" he immediately …

Live Free or Die
Several weeks ago, I received an e-mail from a New Hampshire woman named Kim. She had a special vanity license plate that she no longer needed. As you can see from the photo, it was a plate of particular interest to me and Kim. Well, New Hampshire Kim said she was just going to throw it out, but first wanted to offer it to us as a souvenir. Of course we gladly accepted the wonderful gift. Just yesterday, it arrived in the mail. Kim and I are both totally excited about it. We were both taken by the amazing power of the Internet as well as the generous gesture of kindness from New …
