The first memories I have with my Dad start when I was about three-years- old. In honor of his birthday, Monday, April 24th, I would like to share with you a special memory for each year of my life. This list reminds me how important it is to take time for the people we love. My Dad has blessed my life with so many wonderful moments and memories…and many more to come! Age 3- I sat with my Dad on the riding lawn mower and helped him cut the grass. Age 4- My first ring was given to me by my Dad. Every once in a while he would smoke a cigar and give me the paper ring, which I proudly wore on …

From Bracelets to Blankets
This week I dove into my beginner’s crochet book. After making a number of what Jason fondly referred to as “nose warmers,” I decided I was ready to try a blanket. About an hour into this I realized that I will probably be about 80 years-old when this blanket is finished. I know I will get faster but it is overwhelming at this stage in the game. …
Spring is Here/Near
The calendar informed us a few days ago that it is now spring. There really aren't any buds on the tree branches yet and even though the weather hasn’t reflected "spring" lately, today we got a taste. It was one of those days that reminds me quickly why I love living in Madison, WI. Even though the last few months have been filled with cold winds and snowflakes, days like today make it all worthwhile. Jason and I got a chance to go on a walk around the city. We picked up some sandwiches for lunch and sat down by the still partially frozen Lake Mendota. Ok, so it was a little colder by the lake …
Earning Rest
When I was in high school and college I took the MBTI or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. ® After answering a series of questions it provides you with your personality profile. There are four divisions of your personality type. They are introversion versus extroversion, sensing versus intuition, thinking versus feeling, and judging versus perceiving. You can read more about each mental process and orientation here. At first I was skeptical but when I read my profile I was in shock. The profile of my personality type was very accurate. Since then my friends and I have learned more about this …
Recapturing What?
I love books that give me ideas of things to do to either make my life more fun, more fulfilling, or more simple. Usually these books make their points quickly in short chapters, which happens to be a style I enjoy. Without slamming this title, I picked up a book the other day that seemed as though it was going to give me ideas of things to do to recapture ‘my youth.’ I thought I had found something right up my alley until I read a few of the chapter titles. Some of the ideas were just plain irresponsible and dumb, things such as ‘Yell at someone,' ‘Pierce something other than your ear,' and …
Today’s Entrepreneurs
The other day we flew into San Francisco and made our way to the infamous “Fisherman’s Wharf.” It was there that I saw some very creative entrepreneurs. In most touristy areas you will surely find a handful of street entertainers. In Madison on State Street, along side the shops adoring cheese heads, you’ll be sure to also find guitarists and singers, spray paint artists, maybe a saxophone player, and even sometimes if you’re lucky a whole folk band. Well, on the Wharf I saw this taken to a whole new level. One man was dressed as a robot, from head to toe in silver. Every time someone would …

The Big Drop
This time of year I’m sure many of you would associate ‘the big drop’ with the ball of lights in Times Square that will make it’s big fall just nine short days from now. A few days before Christmas, ‘the big drop’ I think of is much different. …
Good-bye Wishes
On September 25th I blogged about the best reality show on TV, Three Wishes. This show consistently served up large doses of hope and joy every Friday night for the last three months. I am angry and saddened by the news that NBC has canceled the show. Tonight is the last episode. …
Time For the Tree
In three days there will be hundreds of thousands of Christmas trees being put up and decorated. When I was little we always put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving. While searching shoppingblog.com I found that this year you can actually put up the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Shoppingblog.com shares, 'Well, Urban Outfitters has recreated that same little Christmas Tree. For $24 it can be yours: to display in all its pathetic misery, or to turn into something wonderful yourself.' …
