Today, while sitting in a cramped little hopper plane, I noticed something interesting about babies (and kids in general). They're unofficially allowed to smile at others while making eye contact, for more than 10 seconds. Adults are NOT. Let me explain. A few aisles up there was a baby about nine months old. He was busy giggling, clapping, and smiling. (Exactly what everyone wants from babies on airplanes.) This little boy was just plain happy. I noticed him trying to make eye contact with a babyboomer in the aisle in front of him. When the guy saw that he "had been picked" he immediately …
Live Passionately
Live Free or Die
Several weeks ago, I received an e-mail from a New Hampshire woman named Kim. She had a special vanity license plate that she no longer needed. As you can see from the photo, it was a plate of particular interest to me and Kim. Well, New Hampshire Kim said she was just going to throw it out, but first wanted to offer it to us as a souvenir. Of course we gladly accepted the wonderful gift. Just yesterday, it arrived in the mail. Kim and I are both totally excited about it. We were both taken by the amazing power of the Internet as well as the generous gesture of kindness from New …
A World Record of Angelic Proportions
Gotta love this picture. It's an aerial view of thousands of people -- almost 9,000, to be exact -- in North Dakota trying to break a world record... for the most snow angels ever made.Awesome. Looks like the city of Bismarck has a pretty good handle on Adultitis. One of the snow angel makers was Pauline Jaeger, who on her 99th birthday, according to the AP story by James MacPherson, was making her very first snow angel. "It's fun," Jaeger said. "I feel just like a kid."When a 99-year-old lady says something like that, you KNOW it's never too late to have a second …
Cartwheels on the Beach
This image speaks to me. I saw it on a very cool blog post entitled "Young at Heart" on the blog, Hope.Faith.Love. It challenges me. Am I really living my life like that? I sure want to. As I sat and listened to Jason speak today at one of his last of eight programs for January '07, I found myself hearing a sentence he shares regularly for the first time. …
Today is Only the Beginning
Living in Wisconsin you can only imagine that there is a lot of talk about whether or not Brett Favre will retire this year. By the looks of the interview from New Year's Eve, I wouldn't be surprised if he does. Check out a fun Deal or No Deal version of that interview here. To retire or not to retire. What a big decision! So many baby boomers are being faced with this question earlier than they had originally thought, due to corporate budget cutting. Companies do package up the deal pretty nicely these days. It's too expensive to pay the guys/gals at the top. …
Ready for ’07
As we stand here at the doorstep of 2007 and get ready to turn the doorknob, I can't help but poppin' on my iPod and listening to reflective songs from say, Coldplay or The Fray. For some reason I like to make the transition into the new year with a music video created by myself, in my head, using my memories and my music. Ok, I admit, my methods may be strange, but I think the process is still important. It's important to access where you were, where you're going, and where you really want to be. Hopefully the last two things match up. Jason and I did this together over some hot chocolates …
Stuck
In my travels around the country, I have encountered an exorbitant amount of people who feel stuck. Stuck in dead-end jobs. Stuck in good jobs that don't excite them anymore. Stuck in jobs that never excited them but have benefits too good to pass up. Stuck in jobs that have them living for the weekend and missing their kids. The good news is that every single one of these people is not really stuck. They just think they are. …
Passionate Living…to the Extreme
Our next podcast will feature an interview with Eliz Greene, a woman who had a massive heart attack when she was pregnant with twins. Now she travels the country advocating for women's heart health and encouraging people to live their lives with passion. We recorded the interview the other day, and we discussed the topic of wake-up calls (not the hotel room kind). How often do we see someone getting the news that they have six months to live, and suddenly that person ditches all of their fears and anxiety and gets down to the brass tacks of REALLY living life. Can a person do that without the …
Crazy Horse
Today on my walk I saw something that sparked an inner light bulb to glow. It was this… Did you ever ride one of these as a kid? My horse was faded and the springs were very loose from the many rides my three older sisters took over the years prior to my arrival. When I would go for a ride I experienced a very specific combination of feelings. …
Adultitis Prescription: Giraffe Slobber
One of the coolest parts of Jason’s speaking programs is when he draws. I’m his wife and have the chance to see him draw all of the time and it still ignites in me childlike excitement and wonder. How does he do that? In the early years at speaking programs he would draw on an easel with a big pad of paper and a thick black marker. We’re fortunate that technology has grown along with our audiences and now he is able to project his drawing onto a screen using a drawing tablet and LCD projector. It’s pretty neat. I enjoy watching the audiences sit at the edge of their seats as they watch …
