It was brought to my attention recently that I do not have a hobby. Not a "real" hobby. I have never really noticed, to tell you the truth. I like to walk, take baths, listen to music, take naps, and sometimes I like to read. These are things I like to do, but they do not really fit as hobbies. After a little research and reflection on what hobbies really are, I would have to agree that I really do not have one. So, I went in search for something that I could do to relax that I would be passionate about. This was a harder task than I thought it would be. Of course I had some outside factors to …

Just a Little Rusty
In my book and in my presentations, I speak at length about the eight "secrets" that children naturally possess. One of the reasons that adulthood can often be so stress-filled and life not nearly as fun as it was when we were kids is because we have forgotten these "secrets" we once knew so well. I was re-reading Thinking For A Change by John Maxwell (one of my favorite books) and was ran across an interesting excerpt he included from Skipp Ross: …
How To Build a Cardboard Castle
I really wish Mr. McGroovy was my fifth grade teacher (no offense Mrs. Morel.) Mr. McGroovy is a former elementary school teacher with a mission "to do what I love, play to my strengths, and spread joy to others."Mr. McGroovy spreads that joy on his groovy Squidoo website: How to Build a Cardboard Castle. We're talkin' full-fledged plans, ideas on where to find boxes, decorating tips, and the skinny on box rivets. The only thing missing is a step-by-step guide to digging your own moat. I think a little placard about Mr. McGroovy should be installed as part of the cardboard box …
Take Two T-Shirt
Well, we just added another t-shirt to our lineup. It was voted on by K&J readers way back when and we finally got around to getting it printed. (Just in time for Oprah to mention that her favorite color combination was brown and blue -- allegedly.)Interesting tidbit: although I am the resident art director and chief designer around here, this concept came from Kim's noggin. Not too shabby if you ask me. It makes me think about the infamous "do-over" we used to call when things didn't go quite right back in the day. My mission in life is to help people know that you can still …
Last Supper, LEGO Style
I'm an absolute sucker for creative LEGO concoctions, but this one may take the cake. I bring you The Brick Testament, the brainchild of the Reverend Brendan Powell Smith (he's not actually a Reverend.) Smith has photoillustrated a whole bunch of Bible scenes constructed entirely out of LEGO pieces. I love the photography, especially the use of perspective and varying depths of field. It's an ingenious work of art designed to "give people an increased knowledge of the contents of The Bible in a way that is fun and compelling while staying very true to the original versions." There are even …

Once In A Lifetime
Thanks to Marilyn for calling my attention to this... On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06. That won't ever happen again in your lifetime. The secret to life is slowing down just enough to notice the little things. …
Grown-Up Jobs Through a Child’s Eyes
I enjoy writing for each of the characters in my comic strip, but one of the main things I like about Kim is that she seems to best embody the ability of kids to boil down complex concepts into simple, tidy, and logical (at least for them) explanations. This attribute shines forth in vivid detail via interviews conducted by Dave Price of The Early Show on CBS. Dave talked to elementary children for some insight on the working world. Here's my favorite: Dave: Shawn, what does your mom do? Shawn: She works at the post office and sorts mail. Dave: What's the funnest thing about her job? …
Hello, My Name is…
Are you a workaholic? How do you know? A friend of mine shared a recent article from FoxNews.com entitled, "12-Step Program to Just Say No -- to Work." It shared a very sad truth. Being a workaholic is an addiction that society applauds. You know what I'm talking about. We see it all the time. Even if the work we do is good, too much means that something is hurting, however we live in a society that asks us to define who we are by what we do. Where did you get your degree? When are you getting your next promotion? How many trips did you go on this year? What's your next big accomplishment? …
