Over the past few years, I have watched more Jon & Kate Plus 8 than I care to admit. The wifey got me into it a few years ago. It's not like we watch every episode, but it always seems to be on, and we get sucked in by something cute one of the kids says (like "I got to hit the tiñata."). Initially, I thought watching it made for pretty good birth control. Then Lucy came along and I began thanking my lucky stars that there weren't five more of her in there. Now that I'm doing more of the grocery shopping, I am bombarded by the tabloids alerting me to the latest "scoop" on this couple now …

Design Details Interview with Jason
After the final tweaks had been finished, I got a chance to ask webmaster Jason a few questions about the new design for KimandJason.com. How many times has the Kim & Jason website been redesigned? Oy. Lots and lots of times. I'm sure a visit to the Wayback Machine would uncover about a dozen or so versions. Our business has changed a lot over the years which requires a constant evolution. Also technology has made quite a few advancements as well. For instance, our blog started out as a simple thread called "Bird Droppings" in a bulletin board forum. Once blogs were officially …
Interview with Ryan Culbertson
Ryan "Cubby" Culbertson is a Navy guy, father of seven, and all around cool dude. He routinely delighted us with his creative entries in the Thursday Giveaway. A few months back, I wrote an article outlining some important tips for finding your dream job. Ryan commented on the article with a hearty, "Here, here." A little while later, his wife Melynda chimed in to tell us that there was more to the story behind the simple comment. She shared that Ryan was beginning his dream job. For years, he had served in a mind-numbing job that he found boring and redundant. But he was good at it and …
Bored is Good
I remember certain summer days during my childhood in which my brothers and I, all out of ideas of what to do next, would complain to my mother that we were officially bored. I don't remember getting much sympathy. It's been a long time since I was really bored. I love what I do, and there's always an impossibly long list of things that need to be done. And, frankly, it's kind of hard to be bored in our "always on" society awash in laptops and smart phones and iPods. Well, sometimes I’m bored when I'm with Lucy. …

8 Terrific Twists for Your Next Home Movie
Most of us pull out the trusty video camera for the standard occasions: birthdays, weddings, Christmas, and stuff like that. It's always nice to chronicle those big moments, but if your video camera only sees the light of day during major events and holidays, it is being sorely underutilized as a device for escaping adulthood! Here are some home movie ideas to try the next time your inner Spielberg awakens: 1) A Day in the Life Of... Again, everybody films the major events of life. But what about the everyday occurrences? Why not make some movies involving cutting the grass, making dinner, …

Kite Wars
One of my all time favorite childhood activities would have to be flying a kite. We lived near a bunch of trees growing up so my dad would make an extra effort to drive me to a nearby open field so that I could fly my Alf kite. A few years ago for an Escape Plan challenge Jason and I relived the thrill on the white sands of Clearwater Beach in Florida. It was awesome! I was instantly transformed into my eight-year-old self again. It's amazing what a $1.99 kite can do for your spirit. Now as an adult, I would have to say that one of my favorite things in the world is to hear about other …
No Magic Elixir for Adultitis
As I write this, Lucy is a freshly-minted five-month-old. I’m not sure if it seems like it’s been that long or not; the first few weeks were such a blur. I’ve started noticing how big she’s gotten when I see younger babies. I was shocked at church the other day when I saw a newborn cradled in the arms of her mother sitting in front of me. “There’s no way Lucy was ever that small!” I thought. And yet I know she was. There’s something about having kids that really lets you know how much time flies, and that it’s NOT on your side. When it was just me and Kim, time seemed to go by much slower. …
