So here's what I want to know. Is the guy in the white shirt another customer asking to take their picture to show people at work? Or is it the manager from McDonald's? And if the latter, is he saying, "You guys are hilariously creative! How about we treat you to four Happy Meals?" or "We have an Adultitis-ridden policy against fun and that's why I have to tell you to leave the premises immediately." Just wondering. While this is a fairly elaborate stunt, here are a few other things you can do next time you're at McDonald's: …

Nearly the Next Best Thing to a Real Lightsaber
I wonder if I'll ever see a real lightsaber in my lifetime. Not like a prop that they used in the Star Wars movies, but the fully functioning, cuts-through-steel-doors, real deal. Do they have the technology to make such a thing? It seems like they should. They'd probably be pretty dangerous and come with all sorts of warning labels and require a license and you'd hear about some idiot on the news who used it while drunk and accidentally killed his dog and cut his car in half. Until then, here's a tutorial to make some homemade ones that are much, much safer. Photo by Audra Caldwell …

Make a Lego Maze and Amaze Your Friends!
Why have I never thought of this idea before? It's brilliant! Take a marble and some Legos and make an awesome maze! Between designing the maze and trying to get through it, you have two levels of fun. This idea comes from Sam of Lego Quest, a site that serves up a monthly challenge for LEGO loving kids. Here's a neat interview about the origins of the site. Interestingly, it was originally created for kids who are home/unschooled, which is cool. But the challenges are sure to excite and inspire kids of all backgrounds and ages. Like me. …

The Danger of Modern Productivity
I have a confession to make. I’m often more eager to head downstairs to work than I am to come back upstairs and rejoin the family. I think it's because when I’m spending time with my kids, I don’t feel as productive as I do as when I’m working. I still choose family over work more often than not, but sometimes I look at the money and accomplishments my peers are collecting, and I wonder if I’m making the best use of my time, especially when we’re just sitting around doing “nothing.” I used to feel pretty guilty about feeling this way, until a book called How Will You Measure Your Life? …
Denver Neighborhood Bans Children’s Sidewalk Drawings
Apparently, chalk drawings of hearts and flowers is a "distracting and offensive blight" on a Denver community. The homeowner's association in three-year-old Emerson Cohen's neighborhood has temporarily banned children from drawing on sidewalks, saying "anything that offends, disturbs or interferes with the peaceful enjoyment is not allowed on shared spaces." Yeah, because children's chalk drawings wreak all kinds of havoc on my peaceful enjoyment of pretty much anything. …

The Most Awesome Sound in the World
One of the greatest things ever is hearing my kids laugh. Whether it’s a silly little giggle or unbridled belly laughter, there’s no better sound in the world. It recently occurred to me that God probably feels the same way about his children. …

Blurb Instagram Books are the Boss
This past February, we spent a week in Florida. We spent most of our time at the beach and made a day trip to Disney World. We decided to shoot most of our photos with the free iPhone app called Instagram, and then compiled the best ones into an affordable hardcover book made at Blurb.com. It was easy to make, turned out pretty cool, and has become a treasured keepsake of our trip. This is not a paid endorsement by Blurb, just a resource I thought was worth sharing. Note to Blurb: If you'd like to sponsor additional trips to warm places in the winter, we'd be happy to make more …
