Yep, Tag is Way Too Dangerous
Ok, this topic is coming up so often, I've now deemed it an official category of this blog: Adults Are Ruining Everything. Not to be content with suffering the effects of Adultitis in their own life, we have an epidemic of stupid people trying to spread it to everyone. Childhood as we knew it is in danger. If this keeps up, an outbreak of Juvenile Adultitis is on the horizon. Curt Rosengren of Motto Magazine points us to an article about an elementary school that has banned...tag. …
A World Record of Angelic Proportions
Gotta love this picture. It's an aerial view of thousands of people -- almost 9,000, to be exact -- in North Dakota trying to break a world record... for the most snow angels ever made.Awesome. Looks like the city of Bismarck has a pretty good handle on Adultitis. One of the snow angel makers was Pauline Jaeger, who on her 99th birthday, according to the AP story by James MacPherson, was making her very first snow angel. "It's fun," Jaeger said. "I feel just like a kid."When a 99-year-old lady says something like that, you KNOW it's never too late to have a second …
Delighting in the Round Little Things
I'm not talking about rings, Cheerios, or hula hoops. I'm talking about doughnuts. But not just any doughnuts. The circles of love made fresh from the Daily Dozen Doughnut Company at the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle. If you like fresh doughnuts then you need to get on Travelocity right now and book a flight to Seattle and go get some of these doughnuts. Two Octobers ago Jason and I went to Seattle for some speaking gigs. We happened upon this doughnut stand at the Market and have never been the same since. …
Forever Moments
How many "forever moments" have you had recently? The term was used in a recent article by syndicated columnist Debra-Lynn B. Hook. She explained one such moment that occurred while she and her son were on a bike ride: Instead of racing along the trail in a hurry, always rushing to see what's around the bend, we decided to open our senses and our hearts to each curve along the path. "I see shadows on the trail from the sun." "I hear the sound of a lawn mower." …
Make Your Own Treasure Map
Maria Sariego always has interesting things sprinkled throughout her blog. One of the things I picked out from a post back in January that I've been wanting to comment on involves the idea of creating a "treasure map." Basically, it's a big sheet of poster board plastered with images representing some of the things you want to focus on and see manifest in your life. See an example of hers here. …
Instant Cure
In search for a little peace this morning, I decided to imitate art. Actually I can’t take all of the credit for the idea. A friend of mine named Renee asked me to make a snow angel for her. She did her undergrad in Duluth, MN and now lives in Seattle, WA, where they do not get the snow that she was once accustomed to. I have to admit, the idea of getting snow on my wrists and ankles made me think twice. It doesn’t matter how many gloves or socks I have on, it is inevitable. “Kim” the character and I share that pet peeve. …

Pie Anyone?
I had a very miserable piece of pie the other day. You may have heard of the flavor: humble pie. Yes, I was looking through pictures of our Seattle trip with some friends when I realized that I, too, am struggling with a case of Adultitis. Admittance is the first step, right? The picture I shared a few blogs ago with me holding the large fish from the Pike Place Fish Market struck a chord with me. I’ve seen that face before. Who does that remind me of? It's someone very familiar. Then it hit me. …
Crabs and Coffee: View from a Camera
I finally got around to posting some pictures from the Seattle trip. (Check out my Escape Adulthood photo album) It's hard to sum up the whole experience in photos. I think that when people go to visit new places, they try and take a million pictures of everything they see and do. And they end up taking the same standard shots that everybody else takes. In most cases, the pictures never do the place justice, and you're always a little disappointed that you weren't able to capture the "feel" of the place. Somehow, your photos never end up as good as the postcards you bought in the hotel gift …
