Don’t Stop Playing

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. - George Bernard Shaw What puts you in a playful mood? Here's a common scenario for us, Jason and I are in the car heading someplace at dinnertime. All I have to say is, "Where do you want to stop and get some food?" Pop. The red hat appears! We laugh that it's there, and I'm convinced I do see it somedays. (He just can't seem to get enough of those roast beef sandwiches!) Have fun playing on this long weekend! Pajama Run

Imagine with me for a few minutes... You're seven years old and lying in bed after a full day of spelling words, four square and practicing your cursive. Life is good. After getting your goodnight kiss from your mom you imagine what the next day will bring. Then out of nowhere, as if a bolt of lightening, your door flies open with the sound of pots and pans being beat like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. You pop up, knocking over the water by your bedside. "Pajama Run!" your parents claim, as they stand in your room telling you and your sister to get up and get moving! Woo hoo, a Pajama …

Woman vs. Turkey

I love this commercial! In searching for it I realized that Jennie-O has a handful of hilarious ones along the same line. Check them out here, here and here. ENJOY! [tags]Jennie-O commercials, turkey, funny Thanksgiving commercials[/tags] …

Escape Adulthood with Your Camera

Looking for a fun way to beat the snot out of Adultitis this weekend? Grab your camera and check out some ideas from Photojojo, the insanely great newsletter on photography. They believe there are tons of fun things you can do with photos, and they make it their mission to share them with world. I love their childlike attitude and witty copy. Oh yeah, and they have some pretty sweet ideas anyone can do. Here are a few: See Life From a Dog’s Point-of-View with the Photojojo Doggie-Cam! Take Photos From Inside Your Mouth … with the Smiley-Cam! How to Turn Friends into Ghosts with a …

State of Mind

"While being young is an accident of time, youth is a permanent state of mind." This from a man who was still designing houses when he died at age 91, Frank Lloyd Wright. What's your state of mind? [tags] young at heart, Frank Lloyd Wright, childlike spirit[/tags] …

Beat the Clutter

Do you have any clutter in your life? If yes, then you are also probably living with a case of Adultitis. Whether it's in your house, cubical, or head, clutter is causing you stress and preventing you from moving forward. Jack Canfield, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books talks about this, referring to the "Cycle of Completion." He says, When you don’t complete tasks, you can’t be fully prepared to move into the present, let alone your new future. When your brain is keeping track of all the unfinished business you still have at hand, you simply can’t be effective in embracing …

Fun in the Shadows

Ever make shadow puppets when you were little? As kids, my sisters and I always loved it when our begging would finally pay off and we'd get to have an evening watching our home movies on the old movie projector. (It was a lot of work to set-up, mom assured us.) As dad got the film ready to go, along with that one random hair projecting on the wall, our tiny hands would make all sorts of creations. Butterflies were the easiest. Our speaking programs are filled with visuals, which means that we have an LCD projector and screen set-up at every gig. Inevitably, every intergenerational …

Halloween Happenings

Recently I shared about some Halloween plans that were being developed at Maze Lumber in IL. Jason's dad, Walt, had managed to come up with some ideas that were proving to be not only playful, but also profitable. Even though he decided to dress up as a mean lookin' nun, he sure exhibited some Adultitis-free behavior this Halloween. (Especially while riding his scooter around town!) I'm excited to share... Walt's "Top Ten" observations from the day. 10. The food was well received! (hot apple cider, apple cider donuts, with some other sweet additions) 9. Upon seeing the costumed …

Two Truths and a Lie in Monterey (Revealed!)

In regards to my previous post where I listed to truths and a lie about our recent trip to California, I'd like to shed some light for those of you wondering which one was the fabrication. 1) We DID have our program briefly interrupted by an earthquake, the first one I've ever experienced. Although we were about an hour away from the epicenter, we all felt the effects of the earthquake that registered 5.6 on the Richter scale, the largest one in California since 1989. It was weird, but kind of cool. I secretly wished I was in one of the stores in San Jose where items were falling off the …

Fantastical Foods

In our speaking programs, Jason and I share with our audiences about The Escape Plan. One of the challenges we highlight is #24: Outside the Lines: Figure out a way to add some color to your day in a new, unusual, or wacky way. It's funny to think that something as simple as color can help cure your Adultitis, but it really can. Here's a simple and wacky idea you can try today. Next time you are cooking, grab the food coloring and get a little silly (We're all aching for a little silliness!). This is how Jason accomplished this challenge the first time around. For breakfast he ate green …
