One of my favorite parts of this time of year is the sweets... Christmas cookies, fudge.. mmm! My very thoughtful sister-in-law brought over some of our favorites, knowing that I wasn't going to get any made this year (with Lucy's arrival and all). Some of my best childhood memories involve making and decorating cut-out cookies with my family. I'm sure the finished products weren't always the most appetizing (think LOTS of sprinkles), but my dad always seemed excited to eat them and proud that we worked so hard. (What a great dad!) We recently got a message from Terry and Terry Estness, a …
You, Happier.
With Christmas only five days away many of you may be feeling some extra pressure to get everything done in time. Are you overwhelmed? The reality is, you've got a lot going on right now. It's inevitable. Don't forget, kids are also feeling the pressure. Remember those childhood fears that maybe Santa would put your name on the naughty list? Did he really see everything? December was always filled with warnings from my parents that "Santa's watching!" It's important to gain some perspective on the holiday, as we run from store to store finishing up the list. While on our maternity leave, …
Meet Denise Baran
Our featured fan is Denise Baran. Denise shares... • My hometown is... Belchertown, MA, where I was happy to meet Kim and Jason and be touched by their remedies for Adultitis. • My biggest dream is... to own my own Catholic Preschool. • My inspiration... is God and my Dad who is passed, he was my hero. • When I was a kid, I... used to love climbing trees. • One way I stay childlike is... to play with my granddaughters, and teach young children through play. • What I know so far is... you never stop learning, and you are never too old to see the world through a child's eyes, …
Adultitis-Free Christmas Tree
This is the first year in quite some time that Jason and I have been able to put up a Christmas tree. Having the business grow slow and steady over the last eight years, we were able to manage cash flow a lot easier while working out of our home, which wasn't always easy on the life balance side of things. Looking back I think the experience forced us to manage the balance, in order to save our sanity. One year we even had our very own Charlie Brown tree. Now that we've been in our office/retail shop for over a year, the dust has finally settled and our home has turned into a place of refuge …
Meet Steven Sauke
Our featured fan is Steven Sauke. Steve shares, The picture of me standing next to a statue of a thumb was taken in Honfleur, France... right on the mouth of the Seine. • My hometown is... Do you want the whole list? :) I live just north of Seattle right now, although I was born in Missoula, Montana, and have lived in Hong Kong; Manila, Philippines; and several towns/cities in Washington State. • My biggest dream... is to live in France. I feel that God is calling me to minister there someday, although I don't yet know what kind of ministry that would be. I would also like to record a CD …
Fun Family in Florida
One of my favorite Christmas movies of all time has to be A Christmas Story. Every scene seems to be a classic... the leg lamp, the tongue on the flagpole, the bunny suit at the end... constant laughter! (We actually have a special A Christmas Story themed interview coming soon for Club K&J members -- stay tuned!) One of my favorite scenes from the movie is the "mama's little piggy" scene, where Randy, Ralphie's kid brother, is encouraged by his mom to eat his mashed potatoes and meat loaf like a piggy. Hilarious!! Check it out... to save you a few minutes, the scene is found at 6:20. …
Kick Start Cake
Thanks to Tinye Harding for sharing yet another fun story and recipe from childhood! Tinye wrote… When my brother and I were kids I remember my mom making a cake called Coca Cola Cake. As a child, that amazed me that an adult would come up with such a wonderful cake. To my childlike imagination it sounded like something from Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory! Recently I found a Paula Dean version of a similar cake called Mt. Dew Cake. My sons love it. Mt. Dew is their favorite "kick start" beverage, much like my first cup of coffee in the morning. Having that soda and the sugar from the …
Being Great is Grand
With today being our "official" due date (no baby yet!), I thought it'd be neat to share an amazing resource for grandparents (and parents too). Even though our new little one is not the first grandchild on either side of the family, the grandparents are quite excited just the same. In fact, our baby is my Grandma's 24th great-grandchild. "The more the merrier," she says! Grandparents have the best job in the world... limited diapers, permission to spoil, and at the end of the day they go home to a peaceful house with a full night of sleep on the schedule. Plus, they have the wisdom that …
Meet Sister Kimberly Souba
Our featured fan is Sister Kimberly Souba. She shares, The picture attached was taken recently at our classroom Halloween Party. We had a fun time! • My hometown is... La Moille, Illinois • My biggest dream... is to live in a house full of cotton candy. • My inspiration... is my 8th grade teacher and my high school government teacher. • When I was a kid, I... liked to swing all day long. • One way I stay childlike is... teaching students. • What I know so far... that I don't know very much. • My favorite things about "Kim & Jason" are... the creators behind the comic …
Thinking Thankfulness
Thanksgiving is nine days away (which means our due date is just seven!). This time of year it's important to enter into a reflective state of gratitude and happiness. Too often Turkey Day sneaks up so quickly and is gone so fast, leaving us in a turkey coma that we awake from in panic about all that needs to be done in the short couple weeks before Christmas. Take a moment this week before the holiday to spend some time being grateful. Kids naturally know how to maintain perspective, aligning their priorities more effectively than even the most effective life coach. Their secret? Time. They …
