Saturday Morning Sprinkles: How Does He Do That Edition

• My good friend Jason Hewlett is one of the best entertainers in the world. He sings. He does impressions. And he does things with his face that I'm pretty sure are impossible. I've never seen anything like him (Bill Gates said the same thing after a recent performance where he was in the audience!) The cool thing is that he's totally family friendly and has tons of videos on YouTube. Check them out! • I am swooning over some of these beautiful and playful backyards. • This is just too good: Prankster Replaces Pet Names With New Labels In Local Pet Store (Hat tip to Lynn Carter) • …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Pimped-Out Potholes Edition

• Jim Bachor is an artist who fills potholes with whimsical mosaics of ice cream treats and flowers. I am such a fan of adding whimsy to every day life, as seen here and here. • I wonder if Kim would be ok with us remodeling our bedroom. This Millennium Falcon bed is epic. • I enjoyed this graphic featuring life advice from 50 beloved cartoon characters, put out by the AAA State of Play (a family-run commercial playground equipment company in Indiana.) My favorite quote is from Snow White: "You're never too old to be young." • We're living in amazing times, you guys. Check out this …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Pizza In The Wild Edition

• This photography project by Jonpaul Douglass is absurdly awesome. • Here's an insightful article by Travis Bradberry on how successful people get more done by actually working less: "A study from Stanford showed that productivity per hour declines sharply when the workweek exceeds 50 hours, and productivity drops off so much after 55 hours that there’s no point in working any more." • Wouldn't work be wonderful if every office had one of these ball pits for grown-ups? My favorite line from the article: "'We all need a little bit of a recess,' said Dr. Kathryn Hirsh-Pasek, director of …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Stegosaurus Tissue Box Edition

• These handmade tissue holders by SparklyPony are just the coolest. • This art project is interesting. It re-imagines traditional drawing tools and processes and invites kids to draw in odd and quirky ways; through sport, performance and random bodily expression, using melted oil pastels as re-imagined drawing contraptions. • Summer Bellessa let her toddler dress her for a week. The results were interesting. Love this bit about what she learned from the process: The pressure we put on ourselves to look a certain way is just that: pressure we put on ourselves. I wore two different …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Rule Breaking Paratrooper Edition

• This paratrooper broke a rule that actually did exist. Apparently jumping with a water bottle inhabited by your pet Siamese fighting fish is frowned upon by the Army. Still worth it, if you ask me. Thank you for defending our country and fighting Adultitis, Mr. Tattersall. • Meanwhile, this guy got in trouble for building an epic cardboard fort in his yard. He was threatened with fines for violating building codes. I think code enforcer Gordon Sant should be cited for being an Adultitis-ridden jerk head. Left to their own devices, adults will ruin everything. • A while back, I drew a …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Flying Kid Edition

• Love this series of photos from a photographer who creates these composite images of his son "flying." So cool. • From my favorite magazine, 20 Adult Camps for the Young At Heart. • Here's 21 People Having Way Too Much Fun At Their Jobs. (Hat Tip Teri Kranz Drella.) • We need more traffic signs like this one in Norway. Finally, some posts from around here you may have missed: • It’s fun breaking a rule every now and again • Thou shalt Celebrate Christmas on December 25th …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Real Life Kermit the Frog Edition

• Scientists just discovered a new frog that looks amazingly like Kermit the Frog. Located in Costa Rica, the frog, named Diane’s Bare-hearted Glassfrog, was named by senior scientist Brian Kubicki to honor his mother, Janet Diana Kubicki. Life imitating art? • Saying "no" is a very useful skill for maintaining some semblance of life balance. Not always easy, though. Love the killer tip shared on 99u.com for avoiding the automatic guilty yes when someone asks you something in person: “Let me check on something and get back to you.” Brilliant! • McKenzie Rabenn is creating Wisconsin’s …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Lego Laptop Edition

• We've got a lot of Legos sprinkled around our house, so I could definitely use this sweet laptop case. You know I backed this Kickstarter. (Hat Tip to DeMilked) • Parents are way too overprotective these days, and it's not helping our kids one bit. The truth is that there are many dangerous things we do all the time, but it's mastery that minimizes the risk. That's ultimately what 50 Dangerous Things You Should Let Your Child Do is all about. Good stuff. (Hat tip to Kimberly Tice) • I thought this photo project using paint chips was pretty neat. • Want to to start the day putting …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Post-It Note Wallpaper Edition

• This guy had it with the boring office walls. So he bought 9,000 post-it notes, enlisted the help of a few friends, and turned the office from blah to blah-mazing! (Hat tip to Jen De Ridder) • If you have any Peeps left over from Easter, you could always try Peep Jousting. (via Melissa LeFever) • Speaking of those marshmallowy friends, the annual Peeps Diorama contest is always a treat! • Our family is loving this creative short about two dads letting their inner child run wild: Finally, some posts from around here you may have missed: • Thou shalt be realistic • New …

Saturday Morning Sprinkles: Making Thirft Store Paintings Better Edition

• David Irvine paints random pop culture icons into old thrift store paintings, and they are fantastic. Love his creativity! • Love this list of habits for happy families from Modern Parents Messy Kids. Especially dig the concept of time-ins. • Superhero nerds will like this series from a photographer who documents the secret life of superhero toys. • This is pretty cool - a father and daughter re-create Jurassic Park with Legos in this stop-motion animated film: Finally, some posts from around here you may have missed: • The magical moving sidewalk • How to make spring …
