Welcome to a brief timeline of the tumultuous and thrilling tale of a dream that turned into a movement that's changing the world. 1995 October 1995 In an attempt to woo Kim, Jason creates characters based on what the couple looked like as kids and they begin appearing on various homemade gifts. 1997 October 1997 Jason develops a comic strip based on the characters and submits it to the Northern Star, the official newspaper of Northern Illinois University. The Day I Turned Down My Own TV Show
OK, so it wouldn't have exactly been my TV show. I would have been the host of an established show called "Talk of the Town" in which I'd get to interview cool people around Madison. I was offered the job by a producer at a local TV station who heard me speak recently. If I did well, there was an opportunity to branch out into other shows, and maybe even create my own. Kim and I spent some time imagining the seeds of a pretty cool program we could do highlighting fun Adultitis-fighting things in our area. While grocery shopping last week, I imagined what it would be like to be famous, …
Meet Kim & Jason
Greetings and salutations! We are Kim and Jason: best friends, husband and wife, parents of three kids, entrepreneurs, authors, retro t-shirt wearers, and partners in crime on a crusade to annihilate Adultitis in ourselves and the world! Kim is a former kindergarten teacher and noodle junkie. Jason is an artist, professional speaker, and cereal aficionado. After falling in love, graduating college, and getting married, we entered the "real world" and quickly noticed a few things. Like the fact that a shocking number of grown-ups are inflicted with a disease we identified as Adultitis. We …

Can Your Crayon Sharpener Do This?
I have fond memories of getting the big box of 64 Crayola Crayons. All my artistic limitations were cast away as every color in the natural world was now at my disposal. (Mind you, this was before they came out with the massive 96 and 120 count boxes and way before Photoshop would provide me with a million possible color choices.) Anyhoo, remember the sharpener on the back of that box? I mean that was the bomb. A luxury of luxuries. Well now they have developed the sharpener on the box to a level in which you can actually fashion the points into animals. Believe it. Actually, don't. …
Grown Men Go To Great Lengths to Avoid Being “It”
"We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing." Benjamin Franklin said that. Or maybe it was George Bernard Shaw or somebody else entirely; it seems the Internet can't make up it's mind. The sentiment is true, though. And as I like to remind people, grown-ups have the money, the skills, and the autonomy to take play to a level of awesome kids could only dream of. Exhibit A: Nine guys, friends since high school, who have been engaged in an epic game of "Tag" for over 20 years. It started as a way to have fun while they were in high school and it grew …

Picnic in the Rain: Father and Son Surprise Mom and Stay Dry
Spring has sprung in the Midwest. Yahoo! The black mounds of snow have finally disappeared and plump robins are taking their place in the yard. Tulips are starting to pop and the days are getting longer. I am a fan of the occasional cozy rainy day, but I can only handle a few of those a week, once I've tasted the long-awaited gift of a sunny spring day. I'm like an anxious 8-year-old on Christmas Eve. Come on spring! I know you need the rain to make everything green and colorful, but I can't wait any longer!! I suspect our friend Steven from Seattle can relate to my impatience. He …

Good Day Sunshine: 7 Ways to Make Your Living Space More Fun
If you've followed us for a while, then you know that like many entrepreneurs out there, Jason and I have had to work and sacrifice a lot to get where we are today - all the while being quite unsure if the investment was actually going to pay off. We spent the first seven years of our married life together living and working in a crowded apartment here in Madison. When we were selling greeting cards and prints wholesale to retail stores (one of our early business models), we often felt like we were living in a Hallmark store/warehouse filled with boxes, packing peanuts and the screeching sound …
