Delight in the Little Things
Hello, My Name is…
Are you a workaholic? How do you know? A friend of mine shared a recent article from FoxNews.com entitled, "12-Step Program to Just Say No -- to Work." It shared a very sad truth. Being a workaholic is an addiction that society applauds. You know what I'm talking about. We see it all the time. Even if the work we do is good, too much means that something is hurting, however we live in a society that asks us to define who we are by what we do. Where did you get your degree? When are you getting your next promotion? How many trips did you go on this year? What's your next big accomplishment? …
Spring is Here/Near
The calendar informed us a few days ago that it is now spring. There really aren't any buds on the tree branches yet and even though the weather hasn’t reflected "spring" lately, today we got a taste. It was one of those days that reminds me quickly why I love living in Madison, WI. Even though the last few months have been filled with cold winds and snowflakes, days like today make it all worthwhile. Jason and I got a chance to go on a walk around the city. We picked up some sandwiches for lunch and sat down by the still partially frozen Lake Mendota. Ok, so it was a little colder by the lake …
Trying New Things
Coming from the land of cheese and brats, Jason and I tried to get our fill of real southern-style cooking this weekend in Atlanta. Nothing beats southern fried chicken. I heard once that if you try a food that you're not sure about three times, by the third time you will like it, or at least be able to tolerate it …
Something New
One of the things I like most about traveling is that you don't have to work very hard to be childlike. On any given day, children have a very strong chance of seeing something they've never seen before. The older we get, the more things we've seen, making the chance of seeing something new less likely. It is certainly possible to see something new everyday no matter how old you are; you just have to work a little harder. But when you're traveling, away from your normal routine, somehow life has a way of seeming brand new. …
Buried in Relaxation
Jason and I have been busy relaxing these last few days. He had a gig in the Tampa area, so we decided to tack on a few days to bury ourselves in relaxation. Actually, since the weather cooperated, I asked Jason to bury me in the sand. It was awesome. I have to admit the process of being buried in the sand was similar for me to the process of trying to hurry up and relax. You know how it is – you have a certain amount of time, with certain restrictions, and your goal is to relax as soon as possible. …
A Curious Thing About Stamps
Although there hasn't been much rejoicing about the stamp rate increase, these new stamps have softened the blow. At least in our office, where they've been a big hit. They feature picture book animals like Curious George, Olivia, and one of Maurice Sendak's Wild Things. Good stuff. …
Today’s Entrepreneurs
The other day we flew into San Francisco and made our way to the infamous “Fisherman’s Wharf.” It was there that I saw some very creative entrepreneurs. In most touristy areas you will surely find a handful of street entertainers. In Madison on State Street, along side the shops adoring cheese heads, you’ll be sure to also find guitarists and singers, spray paint artists, maybe a saxophone player, and even sometimes if you’re lucky a whole folk band. Well, on the Wharf I saw this taken to a whole new level. One man was dressed as a robot, from head to toe in silver. Every time someone would …

Forever a Good Song
The other day I was browsing the artists on my iPod and came upon a classic, 'Forever Young,' by Rod Stewart. I decided to really listen to the words and was reminded how touching this song is. I heard someone say recently that we need to 'bless' other people more. This song is like a blessing. May you remain forever young. That's my wish. May the good Lord be with you Down every road you roam And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you're far from home And may you grow to be pround Dignified and true And do unto others As you'd have done to you Be courageous and be …
