A friend named Patty told me and Kim about a game she's often played called "Two Truths and a Lie." Perhaps I'm the last person to hear about this fun little party game, but in case you too have been left in the dark, here's how it works: You get together with a group of people (it could be strangers, but it's also fun with people you know really well) and share three "facts" about yourself. Two of the facts are true and one is made up. The trick is to try and guess the fabrication. It's amazing how many odd and unusual things happen to regular people over the course of a lifetime and it can …

An Evening with the Cubs
Well, I wish the Cubbies would have ended the night on a better note, but attending Game One of the the National League Divisional Series in Phoenix last night is an experience Kim and I won't soon forget. We've been in Arizona since Sunday for some speaking gigs. What are the chances that my boys would happen to be opening their playoff push in the exact same city on the day before we fly out, and our hotel is only about 15 minutes from the ballpark? It was an opportunity we couldn't let pass us by, and were able to find a pair of tickets on the internet. I spent more on these tickets than …
When Mosquitoes Attack
The other night Kim and I were on one of our famous walks. It was late, and our steps were guided by the full moon's glow and the occasional street light. We were immersed in a great conversation brainstorming about the business. As we passed a park, my wife, who has a bladder the size of an infant leprechaun, spotted a port-a-potty. She had to go. Did I mention it was dark? Ink black dark. My role as husband meant that I was enlisted to hold the door open for her so she could see what she was doing. (Although in my experience, the less I'm able to see in those things, the better.) No …
Top 10 Posts From the Summer
Dang, where did the summer go? We've still got some time left, but once the kids start going back to school you can smell fall in the air. I'm gonna be busy over the next week putting the finishing touches on the latest issue of the Escape Adulthood magazine (you can get it mailed to your door if you're a Club K&J member) so posting may be a bit sparse. I'm taking this opportunity to present my favorite 10 posts from the summer. Maybe you're new and haven't read any of them. Or maybe you somehow missed a few of them because you were on vacation (good for you!). Consider this either a …
Stable Tables
Our open house was a big hit last Saturday. It was nice to have a firm deadline to get the new office ready, and it was nice to see family and friends that I hadn't seen in way too long. (The 14 straight hours of sleep Sunday night was also quite nice.) It's amazing how quickly snow cones and cotton candy can help people escape adulthood. And it's uncanny how consistent children are in their desire to combine all possible snow cone flavors. I think my favorite part of the whole space are the tables in the conference room (we gotta come up with a better, less corporatey name for that …
The New Office and Open House
Wow. What a week. What a seven years. That's about how long it's been since Kim & Jason was first published. (August 8, 2000.) Fast forward seven years, and we're finally almost moved in to our first office. It's been a long wait, and frankly, if I had been told it would have taken seven years before we'd be able to move into a new office, I might not have ever began. But the prospect of waking up every day with the hope that today just might be the day that something BIG happens has kept me going. Learning, experimenting, persisting, and working hard. Last Friday was the day something …
The New American Dream
When success is equated with excess The ambition for excess wrecks us As top of the mind becomes the bottom line When success is equated with excess If your time ain't been nothing for money I start to feel really bad for you, honey Maybe honey, put your money where your mouth's been running If your time ain't been nothing but money I want out of this machine It doesn't feel like freedom …
What’s In My Glass
I don't even do very many, but I'm about burned out on blog memes. That being said, Phil tagged me with this one (and threw in a challenge about Kim and I LOVING to play tag and other fun kids' games) so, being all competitive and whatnot, here we go. It's the Starbucker meme, and it requires me to answer the following questions: 1) How full is your glass? 2) What kind of glass is it? 3) What's in the glass? and 4) Reasons for #1, #2, and #3. 1) My glass is 3/4 full. 2) The glass is actually a mug with Stinky on it. …
