There are a ton of rules that don't exist. You know, passed-down traditions, silly wives tales, societal expectations, and self-limiting beliefs that people adhere to even though there are not real consequences for breaking them (at least once in a while.) Thou shall not eat dessert first. Thou shall always make thy bed. Thou shall take yourself seriously. It is our deep hope that calling them out will open the eyes of people to the limitations they are needlessly living under and inspire them to break free and live better stories. Got a rule that doesn’t exist you’d like to …

Woman’s Day January 2009
In an article in the January 2009 issue of Woman's Day magazine entitled "Ring In The New You," Kim shares some Adultitis-fighting advice with readers. “When I taught kindergarten the kids would make up holidays, like the 100th day of school, and we’d have cupcakes,” says Kim Kotecki, coauthor of The Escape Plan: A 40-Day Plan to Annihilate the Adultitis in Your Life. Do the same: Cheer because it’s a sunny day. Have a cupcake just because it’s Wednesday. Read all the other great ideas here. That's the scoop! ~Jenna :) …
Panic Mode
When my daughter wakes up from one of her dozens of naps throughout the day, she often wakes up hungry. No surprise there. But what's funny to me is how quickly she ramps up to 100% panic mode if she doesn't get fed in less than 15 seconds. Wait for 45 seconds, and she's practically inconsolable. Kim and I joke that it's as if she thinks we'll never feed her again. Ever. That she's already had her last meal but didn't realize it at the time and is now preparing for the worst by doing her best impression of a fire engine heading to a five alarm fire. You'd think that after almost six …

Killing Adultitis With Kindness
I'm fairly certain you would agree that the overall stress levels have revved up considerably, as of late. Fear is all over the place. Adultitis is running rampant. The buzz word seems to be: crisis. With the financial woes, the everyday worries and concerns seem amplified- job security, bills/debt, retirement planning, education, etc. With more financial stress comes more crime, abuse, addiction, divorce.... yikes. It's easy to become overwhelmed and let this fear paralyze you. It's much more of a challenge to take things one day at a time, with the goal of making the best out of each …

The World’s Tallest Snowman (I Mean Snowwoman)
Is it possible for a whole town to be Adultitis-free? I don't know about that, but Bethel, Maine sure comes close. In 1999, the ski town of about 2,400 residents set the record for world's tallest snowman. In 2008, the record was finally broken. By them. This time, they built a "snowwoman" and she was no dainty lass. …

Escape in ’09
Three years ago Jason and I embarked on The Escape Plan, a 40 day challenge to annihilate the Adultitis in your life. On the first Wednesday of the year the challenge was "Instaparty: Find a reason to celebrate and do something to celebrate it." I had a blast celebrating the first hump day, making camel pancakes, wearing a goofy homemade hat donning camel clipart, and even visiting our local camels at the Madison zoo. It was all very childlike and reminded me of my days teaching kindergarten, when celebrations were plentiful. As you start 2009, I challenge you to incorporate childlike …
